Easy to use, not a simple Windows replacement, and wait for 10.2
I switched from Windows to SUSE Linux for my home computer. It's easy to use and there are lots of good software products available. However, you're making a compromise; multimedia-rich Web sites are often targeted at Windows browsers, the software installation and management process is overly complex, you're behind the curve on the latest hardware support. This is minor to me for the other benefits (I do a bit of programming and general tinkering).^M
Decent but not great
Novell is in the process of running Suse into the ground. With each release of Suse, it gets worse and worse. 10.1 is buggy, particularly in its new updating architecture - Zen. I could not get it to work even after calling Novell, and talking to technical support. Sometimes my computer wouldn't shut down. It periodically froze upon bootup. ^M
Still not as easy as windows but also still worth the time
Suse 10.1 continues the trend of improvement. The 10.1 changes are pretty sudle but important. There is a new indexing service called beagle, although it seems to slow things down so I have removed it. Font anti alias rendering has improved making everything look smoother. X Org continues to make small but steady speed, and look and feel improvements, and the number of supported hardware items continues to increase. The last two versions of Suse have been able to auto install with all of my hardware. I do still finding my self having to ticker with somethings but the amount of it is decreasing.^M
