CD-ROM Description

Clean out Internet buildup with Norton CleanSweep from Symantec. Its powerful tools improve your PC's performance by eliminating unwanted programs and other files that waste disk space. Thorough and reliable, Norton CleanSweep removes a wide array of nonessential items on your hard drive, including cookies, history logs, and other files that track your Internet activities.

Customer Reviews

Won't do anything for you except destabilize your system

This program is fun for about an hour: you click a few buttons and pretend to be organizing your files, until presto, you discover that it has gummed up your registry and that your other applications conflict with it. Norton admits--in the dark recesses of the Readme file--that CleanSweep is known to cause problems with Norton's own Anti-Virus software. (Shouldn't a software manufacturer be expected to produce two titles that don't wipe each other out?) The pain only continues: you go on to discover that uninstalling CleanSweep is a major hassle, and removing all the registry entries can take you the whole day. Later you ask yourself what this program did that you couldn't have done through Windows, and the sad answer is NOTHING. And at last you realize that you are but the latest victim of fancy packaging and let's-separate-a-consumer-from-his-money advertising.

Pointless "utility"

This bloated, poorly designed program doesn't really do much that the simpler Disk Cleanup utility in Windows already does. Just go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools and choose Disk Cleanup. You can then defrag your disk using the option right below Disk Cleanup on the menu, if you wish. These two options will take care of anytnig Cleansweep 2002 will--and it already comes with your system. This is a waste of money, disk space, and time, because it's slower. Don't bother.
