I'm learning something, I think...
I have read some of the other reviews and I agree with a lot of it. This is not a stand alone method to learn the Japanese language. If you have another way to learn grammar, a source for looking up kanji, a Japanese-English dictionary, and are willing to research any presented material that you don't understand, then this is a good addition to your resources. You will find yourself connecting sounds to pictures, but if you don't take time to actually translate what is said, then you will learn near nothing.^M
Learning Japanese is hard and Rosette Stone make it harder.
This softeware is full of crap. Excuse my language but It doesn't work. I would have given no star if I could...I heard about it on tv. Then I went online to do more research and it said one of the company I work for use it. I figure it a big corporation like mine using it then it worth a try. I went to the mall on day and saw it in a kisok and then purchase the two hundred dollar software. Well anyway after I tried it for 5 mins I hated it. I got luck because they do give 6 month refund period. Also got luck because I check my credit card and was not charged for the item yet it been two months. Hopefully that new cashier really did it wrong unless they are going to charge me on the 6th month. Anyway save me time from having to return it. Basically why It sucks is because it teach you like your mother or father would teach you from birth. It shows you picture and then says the words. The only thing is the words you learn are worthless. Like horse, pig, airplane. There no translations you basically have to look at the picture and figure out what they trying to tell you. I got frustrated very quickly and you can choose between romanji, kanji, katana but if you don't know what they are saying you get lost. They do teach you character reading. They teach you words only no solid phrase. I don't know learn how to saying a boy is sit on the table or a boy in an airplane does me any good. For your sake save your money. What I found out is that [...]is very good so If you trying to learn japanese go there it worth a try. If you don't want to continue membership they make it easy for you to cancel on the website. You don't have to hunt it down. Also What I like is if you don't want to do a monthly membership you can do a trial period and then print the material or try to save then on the a pdf file. Only part about that is you can listen to the words or phrase but what the heck give that a try it only 10 bucks and not two hundred bucks. Try that better. It a better step by step approach. Not picture and guess. I am in no way connect to [...]. I just search and found this website.
Pictures don't always speak words...
I just tried doing the demo and thought it was absurd. What's the point of learning words and the pronunciation if you have no idea what the words mean. It's not good enough to think you know what they're saying. I looked at the 4 pictures and thought of numerous interpretations. Does the software that you get actually tell you? Is the demo picture "the man running", "a boy and girl walking"??? It doesn't make any sense to learn just words and not the vocabulary the same way you learned your own language as a child. Especially for a language like Japanese where it's Very important to use the right sentance structure and putting the right empahasis on vowels and constantants in the right place. Just like English two words spelled the same can have totally different meanings if the vowel is dragged out. How can you possibly learn the language if you don't know in advance that I is pronounded e and U pronouned oo.I just don't understand how this method of teacing can help someone to Learn the language. This is no different that a tape that asks you to listen and repeat words. Pictures are fine but a written workbook works just as well. I don't need to see a picture of an apple to relate it to what's being spoken. Four pictures with a girl and boy walking, a black man running, a white woman running and kids walking doesn't make the translation easier than "reading" what the translation is. ^M
