Still answering the call for the PS2

With the current gen system's life cycles dwindling down ever so much, it's nice to see that Activision ported Call of Duty 3 to the PS2. It's even nicer to see that Call of Duty 3 looks surprisingly good and plays nearly as good as it does on next-gen systems. You know the setting, you know the story. The only thing you may not know about Call of Duty 3 is that the graphics, while not without some hiccups, look pretty good for a PS2 game, and the sound and audio effects are simply superb. Seriously, this game has some of the best sound effects you will hear in a PS2 game. The online multiplayer is a blast to play too, but what really hurts the game is that the PS2 online play can get really choppy. That aside though, the single player mode is still very engaging and overall fun, but as a whole, Call of Duty 3 isn't really all that different from last year's Call of Duty 2: Big Red One for the PS2. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the player, so fans who may be looking for something different from what they usually get may be a little disappointed. Not to mention that while the single player mode may be great, it is pretty short. All in all though, Call of Duty 3 is still an excellent first person shooter, and should definitely be checked out by all those who aren't looking to dive into the next-gen just yet.

Great game, too short!

Call of Duty 3, yet another game in the oh-so-dead-horse WWII genre. Seriously, I'm bored of WWII games. But of course since developers can't seem to get the other wars right (Notice all Vietnam based games and don't even get me started on the Conflict: Desert Storm series) I guess we're stuck with the Greatest Generation. ^M

Take a trip into a lackluster World War II

To be honest, I never really was a fan of those Army kind of games such as Medal of Honor, SOCOM or Call of Duty. While it is kind of interesting experiencing a history you weren't around for (or even your parents), it was never really something that I paid a large amount of attention to, preferring to play things such as RPG's or Zelda. Well since the stores didn't exactly have anything interesting, I thought "why not?" so I picked it up and while I don't regret trying it out, there's almost an air of "wasn't this supposed to be really awesome?"^M
